Joe Alwyn was added as a producer to the official credits for Taylor Swift’s “august” after Folklore won Album of the Year.
The song’s listed producers are Swift, Jack Antonoff, and Alwyn. In the Folklore liner notes, only Swift and Antonoff were initially credited as producers, but the Recording Academy later recognized Alwyn’s co-production contribution after the album received the Grammy award.
Alwyn used the pseudonym William Bowery for songwriting credits on some Folklore and Evermore songs. That fact can make the “august” credits especially easy to confuse, because his work on the album is connected to both production and songwriting elsewhere in the project.
Aaron Dessner was also a central Folklore producer, but he did not produce “august.” Antonoff created the initial instrumental for the song, while Swift wrote the lyrics in response.
