Joe Alwyn joined Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff as a producer of “august.”
Swift and Antonoff wrote the song, while production credits also include Alwyn. Alwyn was credited under the pseudonym William Bowery on Folklore and later received formal recognition for his songwriting and production contributions to Swift’s pandemic-era albums.
Antonoff reportedly developed the instrumental first and sent it to Swift, who wrote the lyrics quickly and intuitively. The finished recording uses a hazy, cinematic palette rather than a stripped-down acoustic arrangement, combining keyboards, strings, guitar-pop textures, and dense reverb.
Listeners sometimes assume Aaron Dessner produced every Folklore track because he was one of the album’s principal collaborators. Dessner was central to the album, but “august” specifically credits Swift, Antonoff, and Alwyn as producers.
