Which producer co-produced Wasting Light with Foo Fighters? The producer was Butch Vig.
Wasting Light was co-produced by Foo Fighters and Butch Vig, the Wisconsin-born producer best known for his work on Nirvana’s Nevermind and the Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream. Vig had already worked with Dave Grohl during the Nirvana era, making the collaboration a notable reunion.
Released on April 12, 2011, Wasting Light was Foo Fighters’ seventh studio album. The band wanted a rawer, more immediate sound, so the sessions were recorded almost entirely with analog equipment in the garage of Grohl’s home in Encino, California, rather than in a conventional digital studio.
The old-fashioned recording process limited post-production corrections and required extensive rehearsal. The album includes “Rope,” “Walk” and “These Days,” and it features former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic on “I Should Have Known.” A common confusion is Sonic Highways: Vig also produced that later album, but Wasting Light was the earlier collaboration.
