Which president is depicted on the current United States one-dollar bill?

The story behind the answer

George Washington is depicted on the current United States one-dollar bill.

Washington’s portrait appears on the front, or obverse, of the $1 Federal Reserve Note. The reverse shows the Great Seal of the United States, including the eagle, shield, pyramid, and Eye of Providence. The note’s green color and familiar design have made it one of the most recognizable U.S. banknotes.

Washington was the first president of the United States and had previously commanded the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. His image on the one-dollar denomination reflects his central place in the nation’s founding history.

The portraits on other common notes cause frequent confusion: Thomas Jefferson appears on the $2 bill, Abraham Lincoln on the $5 bill, Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill, and Benjamin Franklin on the $100 bill.
