Baghdad is the main setting of Assassin's Creed Mirage.
The 2023 game takes place in ninth-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age. Players follow Basim Ibn Ishaq before he becomes the character seen in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The city is presented as a dense urban environment with districts, markets, historical sites, and political centers connected to Basim's missions.
Mirage focuses heavily on stealth, investigation, social hiding, and targeted assassinations. Basim joins the Hidden Ones at Alamut and returns to Baghdad as an Assassin, where he investigates the Order of the Ancients. The game was designed as a more compact, city-centered experience than several of the expansive role-playing entries.
Baghdad is sometimes confused with Damascus because Damascus is one of the principal cities in the original Assassin's Creed. Cairo is another important historical city in the wider franchise, but it is not Mirage's main setting. The game's depiction draws on Abbasid-era Baghdad, including the period associated with Caliph al-Mu'tasim.
