Which Portuguese winger joined Chelsea from Sporting CP in 2026?

The story behind the answer

Geovany Quenda was the Portuguese winger who joined Chelsea from Sporting CP in 2026. Sporting announced the move in March 2025, with the transfer scheduled for the summer of 2026.

Quenda is a right winger who has also played as a right wing-back. That positional flexibility reflects Sporting's tactical system, where wide players are often asked to contribute both in attack and in defensive transitions. Chelsea agreed a long-term contract with the highly rated teenager.

Born in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, Quenda moved to Portugal as a child and developed through the youth systems of Damaiense, Benfica and Sporting. He became part of Sporting's first team during the 2024-25 season and helped the club win both the Primeira Liga and the Taça de Portugal.

He chose to represent Portugal internationally rather than Guinea-Bissau. Before moving to Chelsea, he had already attracted attention for his pace, one-on-one ability and maturity despite his young age. He is not the same player as Chelsea's Portuguese winger Pedro Neto.
