Which player won three consecutive French Open women's titles in the 1990s?

The story behind the answer

Monica Seles won three consecutive French Open women’s singles titles from 1990 through 1992.

Her first Paris title came in 1990, when the 16-year-old defeated top seed Steffi Graf in the final. Seles defended the championship in 1991 by beating Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, then completed the three-title run in 1992 with a dramatic victory over Graf.

Seles’s achievement belongs to the tournament’s Open Era record book, although she is not the only woman to win three straight titles overall. Justine Henin matched the feat from 2005 to 2007, and Iga Świątek later did so from 2022 to 2024.

A common mix-up is confusing consecutive French Open titles with total French Open titles. Chris Evert holds the Open Era record with seven women’s singles championships, while Seles won three in Paris and nine Grand Slam singles titles overall.
