Which player won the League of Legends World Championship three times by 2016?

The story behind the answer

Faker won the League of Legends World Championship three times by 2016.

The South Korean mid laner won the global title with SK Telecom T1 in 2013, 2015, and 2016. His 2013 victory came in the second World Championship, while the later titles established him as the defining player of League of Legends’ early competitive era.

Faker, whose real name is Lee Sang-hyeok, joined SK Telecom T1 in 2013. His aggressive play, champion variety, and ability to perform in major matches quickly made him internationally famous. In the 2013 final, SK Telecom T1 defeated Royal Club 3–0.

Faker’s three championships by 2016 were not the same as three consecutive titles: SK Telecom T1 did not win the 2014 World Championship. The team returned to the top in 2015 and defended its title in 2016, making Faker the central figure in the organization’s dynasty.
