Steffi Graf won the 1988 French Open women’s singles title during her calendar Grand Slam season. She defeated Natasha Zvereva 6–0, 6–0 in the final.
The French Open was Graf’s second major victory of 1988, following her Australian Open triumph. She then won Wimbledon and the US Open, becoming only the third woman to complete a calendar Grand Slam after Maureen Connolly and Margaret Court.
Graf’s achievement became even greater at the Seoul Olympics later that year, where she won gold. That combination of the four major titles and Olympic singles gold is known as the Golden Slam. The final’s double-bagel score is a frequent reason this match is remembered as one of the most startling major finals.
