Which player has won the Orange Cap for most runs in a season the most times?
Answer
David Warner
Answer
David Warner
David Warner has won the IPL Orange Cap for the most runs in a season more times than any other player.
Warner claimed the award three times, in 2015, 2017 and 2019, each time representing Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Orange Cap recognises the tournament's leading run-scorer and is awarded after the season's final, so a batter must remain ahead across both the league stage and playoffs.
His three wins put him ahead of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli, who have each won the award twice. Warner's 2015 campaign produced 562 runs, his 2017 season brought 641, and he scored 692 in 2019. Those performances helped establish him as one of the IPL's most consistent overseas batters.
The Orange Cap is not the same as the player who scores the most runs in a single match, or necessarily the batter with the highest career aggregate. For example, Kohli's 973 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016 remain the record for the most runs in one IPL season, but Warner still holds the record for the most Orange Cap victories.
