Botic van de Zandschulp defeated Arthur Gea in the 2026 US Open’s longest match.
The fourth-round contest lasted 5 hours 13 minutes and ended with van de Zandschulp winning 3–6, 6–7, 7–6, 7–6, 6–4. Gea won the opening two sets, but van de Zandschulp recovered by taking two successive tiebreak sets before winning the decider.
Gea’s appearance was itself unusual because he reached the main draw as a lucky loser. A lucky loser is a player who loses in the qualifying competition but is admitted to the main draw when a place becomes available.
Van de Zandschulp’s victory made him one of the tournament’s standout endurance performers. The match was the fourth-longest in US Open history, although it did not surpass the event’s all-time record.
