Pixar’s Cars was the first winner of the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature.
Cars won the inaugural Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature at the 64th Golden Globe Awards, held in January 2007. The category was newly created to recognize animated feature films, making the award an important milestone for animation at the ceremony.
The film competed against nominees including Monster House and Open Season. Its victory is distinct from the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, which had existed since 2001 and was won by Happy Feet for the 2006 film year. This difference explains why Cars is associated with a historic first at the Golden Globes but was not the first Oscar winner in the category.
Cars was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and for Best Original Song. Its Golden Globe win added to the film’s major awards recognition after its 2006 release.
