Cars 2 follows Lightning McQueen as he competes in the World Grand Prix.
The 2011 film expands the Cars setting beyond Radiator Springs. McQueen races in events held in Japan, Italy, and England, while Mater becomes involved in an international espionage adventure. The World Grand Prix is organized as a showcase for alternative fuel technology, with racer Francesco Bernoulli serving as McQueen’s major sporting rival.
Cars 2 was directed by John Lasseter and Brad Lewis. It is the second feature in the Cars franchise and the first Pixar film to place Mater at the center of its spy-comedy plot. The film’s international locations include Tokyo, Porto Corso, and London. It is often confused with Cars 3 because both films focus on McQueen’s racing career, but Cars 3 returns to a more traditional racing and mentor story in the United States.
