Pixar's Cars features Randy Newman's song “Our Town.”
The song plays during a montage about Radiator Springs and its fading fortunes. Its lyrics focus on the town's past, the decline of Route 66, and the effect of the new interstate highway that diverts travelers away from the community.
“Our Town” was written and performed by Randy Newman for the Cars soundtrack. The song earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song and also received major recognition from music-award organizations.
“Our Town” is sometimes confused with “Life Is a Highway,” the country-rock song performed by Rascal Flatts for the film. Both appear on the Cars soundtrack, but Newman wrote “Our Town” specifically as a reflective song about Radiator Springs.
