Cars 3 introduced the character Cruz Ramirez.
Cruz is a trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center who is assigned to help Lightning McQueen prepare for competition against next-generation racers. She initially appears uncertain about racing herself, but her training, determination, and driving ability become central to the story.
The film was released in 2017 and was directed by Brian Fee. It focuses on Lightning’s response to Jackson Storm and on the transition between racing generations. Cruz’s background allows the story to examine confidence, opportunity, and the difference between a dream and a job.
Cruz is voiced by Cristela Alonzo in the English-language version. She should not be confused with Sally Carrera, Lightning’s friend and romantic interest, or Holley Shiftwell, Mater’s spy partner in Cars 2. Cruz’s yellow design and number 51 help identify her in the film’s later races.
