Cars 2 is the sequel to Pixar's 2006 feature film Cars.
The original Cars introduced Lightning McQueen, Mater, Doc Hudson, and the residents of Radiator Springs. Its story centered on Lightning's accidental stay in the town and his transformation from an isolated competitor into a friend and community member.
Cars 2, released in 2011, changes the emphasis toward international racing and espionage. Lightning enters the World Grand Prix, while Mater becomes entangled in a spy adventure involving Allinol and Sir Miles Axlerod.
The title can cause confusion with Pixar's other sequel series. Toy Story 2 follows Toy Story, The Incredibles 2 follows The Incredibles, and Finding Dory follows Finding Nemo. Cars 3 later continued the series in 2017, focusing on Lightning's challenge from younger racers.
