Which Pixar director helmed both Cars and Cars 2?
Answer
John Lasseter
Answer
John Lasseter
John Lasseter directed both Cars and Cars 2.
Lasseter co-directed the original Toy Story before becoming one of Pixar’s leading creative figures. He directed Cars, released in 2006, and returned for Cars 2, released in 2011. His work helped establish the visual world of anthropomorphic vehicles, its racing culture, and its Route 66-inspired locations.
Cars 2 expanded the franchise from a small-town racing story into an international action adventure. Lasseter directed the sequel with Brad Lewis, who had also worked as a producer on the original Cars. This shared credit is why Brad Lewis is sometimes incorrectly named as the sole director of Cars 2.
Brian Fee directed Cars 3, which continued the story without Lasseter as director. The three films therefore have different directing credits across the trilogy, even though the franchise retains recurring characters and creative ideas.
