Cars 2 sends Lightning McQueen into the World Grand Prix.
The World Grand Prix is an international racing competition organized by Sir Miles Axlerod. McQueen enters the event and races in Japan, Italy, and England. The competition gives Cars 2 a broader setting than the original film, moving the characters from Radiator Springs into a globe-spanning adventure.
Mater accompanies McQueen and becomes involved in a spy plot after being mistaken for an undercover agent. The film combines racing with espionage, introducing secret agents Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell and an attack connected to an alternative fuel called Allinol.
Cars 2 was released in 2011 and directed by John Lasseter and Brad Lewis. It is the second feature in the franchise, while Cars 3 later returns the focus to McQueen’s racing career and his struggle to remain competitive against a new generation.
