Cars 2 is the Pixar Cars film set partly during a worldwide spy adventure. The story follows Mater after British agents mistake him for an American intelligence operative during the World Grand Prix.
The sequel moves beyond the American racing setting of the first film. Its locations include Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London, while the plot combines international racing with espionage, surveillance, and a conspiracy involving alternative fuel.
Lightning McQueen remains an important character, but Mater receives a much larger role than in the original. Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell guide the spy storyline, while Francesco Bernoulli serves as Lightning's main racing rival.
