Cars 2 is the Pixar Cars film built around a World Grand Prix and an international spy plot.
Released in 2011, Cars 2 follows Lightning McQueen as he enters the World Grand Prix, while Mater becomes involved in an espionage investigation led by Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell. The story travels through Tokyo, Porto Corsa and London, making it the most international entry in the original film trilogy.
Unlike Cars, which centers on Lightning's forced stay in Radiator Springs, Cars 2 emphasizes action, secret agents and a conspiracy involving alternative fuel. Mater has a much larger role and serves as the emotional and comedic center of the spy storyline.
Cars 3 returned to a more racing-focused story about aging, training and new technology. Cars on the Road is a later Disney+ animated series rather than a feature film, so it is not the title associated with the World Grand Prix plot.
