Cars 2 introduced Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell to Pixar's Cars franchise.
Released in 2011, Cars 2 expands the series from Radiator Springs and American stock-car racing into an international spy adventure. Finn McMissile is a British intelligence agent, while Holley Shiftwell is a young British agent working with him. Their investigation becomes connected to Mater after he is mistakenly treated as an American spy.
The film also introduces the World Grand Prix, which takes Lightning McQueen to races in Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London. This global structure gives the sequel a different tone and larger set of locations than the original Cars.
Cars introduced Lightning, Mater, Sally, Doc Hudson, and the Radiator Springs community. Cars 3 returned to a more focused racing and mentoring story. Planes belongs to a separate spinoff franchise and is not a Pixar Cars film.
