Cars features the song “Our Town,” which was nominated for an Academy Award.
Written and performed by Randy Newman, “Our Town” plays over the closing credits of the 2006 film. The song reflects Radiator Springs' decline and renewal, echoing the movie's themes of changing roads, forgotten communities, and the value of slowing down.
At the 79th Academy Awards, “Our Town” was nominated for Best Original Song. It competed with songs from Dreamgirls, An Inconvenient Truth, and other films, but the award went to “I Need to Wake Up” from An Inconvenient Truth.
This nomination is sometimes mixed up with Pixar's other music awards. Randy Newman won the Academy Award for “If I Didn't Have You” from Monsters, Inc., while Cars' “Our Town” received a nomination rather than a win.
