The Pixar Cars film featuring Rascal Flatts’ “Life Is a Highway” is Cars.
Rascal Flatts recorded the song for the 2006 film’s soundtrack. The group’s version is a country-rock cover of “Life Is a Highway,” originally written and recorded by Canadian musician Tom Cochrane in 1991. The song plays over a montage showing Lightning McQueen and Mack traveling toward California.
Its lyrics about movement and the open road fit Cars’ themes of travel, racing, and discovering unexpected places. The recording also connected the animated film with country music audiences, especially in the United States.
The song is sometimes incorrectly attributed to Rascal Flatts as the original recording. Cochrane released the original version years before the film, while the Rascal Flatts recording became the version most closely associated with Cars. The movie’s broader soundtrack also includes songs by Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, and James Taylor.
