Which Pixar Cars character is a former Hudson Hornet racing champion?

Doc Hudson is the Pixar Cars character who is a former Hudson Hornet racing champion.

Before becoming Radiator Springs' doctor and judge, Doc was a celebrated racer known as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet. He won three Piston Cups and later withdrew from racing after a crash and a difficult return to competition. The town's residents do not initially reveal this history to Lightning McQueen.

Doc's past explains his skepticism toward McQueen's fame-driven attitude. He recognizes the dangers of treating racing as a way to gain attention and encourages McQueen to understand loyalty, patience, and community. The character is voiced by Paul Newman, whose final major voice performance was closely associated with the film.

Doc Hudson should not be confused with Strip Weathers, also known as The King, another champion, or Chick Hicks, McQueen's aggressive rival. The Hudson Hornet identity belongs specifically to Doc's racing past.
