Which phrase is inscribed on the 2026 America250 dime?

“Liberty Over Tyranny” is inscribed on the 2026 America250 dime.

The dime is part of the special United States Semiquincentennial coinage issued for the nation’s 250th anniversary. Its obverse features a head of Liberty wearing a Liberty cap, while the reverse shows an eagle clutching arrows. The phrase “Liberty Over Tyranny” connects the imagery to the revolutionary ideals being commemorated.

This coin differs from the familiar Roosevelt dime, whose obverse portrays President Franklin D. Roosevelt and whose reverse carries a torch, olive branch, and oak branch. The 2026 dime is a one-year anniversary design rather than a permanent replacement for the standard Roosevelt series.

The Liberty cap has deep roots in classical symbolism and appeared frequently in American revolutionary imagery. It was associated with freedom and emancipation, although the American Liberty cap is not the same object as the Phrygian cap in every historical context.
