Which photographer was Georgia O'Keeffe married to from 1924 until his death?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe was married to photographer Alfred Stieglitz from 1924 until his death in 1946.

Stieglitz was an influential photographer, gallery owner, and advocate for modern art. He exhibited O'Keeffe's work at his New York gallery, 291, beginning in 1916, helping introduce her drawings and paintings to the American art world.

Their relationship was both personal and professional. Stieglitz photographed O'Keeffe extensively, while O'Keeffe became one of the central artists represented in his galleries and exhibitions. They married in 1924, although O'Keeffe increasingly maintained an independent artistic life.

Stieglitz died in 1946 in New York. O'Keeffe continued working for decades afterward and eventually became especially known for her paintings of flowers, bones, and New Mexico landscapes. Edward Steichen and Paul Strand were also important photographers, but neither was O'Keeffe's husband.
