Which photographer made the famous 1930 portrait series of Georgia O'Keeffe?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz made the famous portrait series of Georgia O'Keeffe.

Stieglitz was a pioneering photographer, publisher, and gallery owner who began exhibiting O'Keeffe's work in New York. Between 1918 and 1937, he created hundreds of photographs of her, showing her face, hands, body, and clothing in a sustained study that became one of the best-known artist portrait collaborations in American art.

The photographs were not simply publicity images. Stieglitz used them to explore modernist ideas about identity, abstraction, and the expressive possibilities of photography. O'Keeffe later objected to some interpretations of the photographs, especially when critics treated her primarily as Stieglitz's subject rather than as an artist in her own right.

The couple married in 1924. Their relationship connected O'Keeffe to New York's avant-garde art world, although she increasingly sought independence and spent substantial time painting in New Mexico.
