Which photographer created the 1920s portrait series of Georgia O'Keeffe?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz created the famous 1920s portrait series of Georgia O'Keeffe.

Stieglitz began photographing O'Keeffe in 1917 and continued making images of her for many years. The series contains hundreds of photographs and presents her face, hands, body, and clothing in varied poses and degrees of abstraction. It became one of the most extensive photographic studies of a single person in modern art.

Stieglitz was also the first important gallery promoter of O'Keeffe’s work. He exhibited her drawings and paintings in New York and helped introduce her to an American audience interested in European and American modernism.

Because Stieglitz was both her husband and her photographer, the portraits are often discussed alongside questions of artistic identity and public image. Their relationship began before their 1924 marriage, and O'Keeffe later established a separate reputation through her own paintings and exhibitions.
