Which photographer became Georgia O'Keeffe's husband in 1924?
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Georgia O'Keeffe married photographer Alfred Stieglitz in 1924. Stieglitz was a major figure in American photography and ran the New York galleries known as 291 and An American Place, where he exhibited O'Keeffe's work.
Their relationship began through correspondence after Stieglitz saw some of O'Keeffe's charcoal abstractions in 1916. He organized her first solo exhibition in 1917 and later photographed her extensively. Those photographs helped shape public awareness of O'Keeffe, although she disliked interpretations that reduced her paintings to illustrations of sexuality.
The couple married on December 24, 1924, and divided much of their time between New York and Lake George. They remained married until Stieglitz's death in 1946. O'Keeffe later established her own independent reputation through paintings of flowers, New York architecture, bones, and New Mexico landscapes.
