Which photographer and gallery owner was Georgia O'Keeffe married to from 1924 until his death in 1946?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe was married to Alfred Stieglitz from 1924 until his death in 1946. Stieglitz was a major photographer, modern-art promoter, and gallery owner who helped introduce European and American modernism to U.S. audiences.

Stieglitz began exhibiting O'Keeffe's work in New York in the 1910s after receiving drawings from a mutual acquaintance. Their personal and professional relationship became one of the most discussed partnerships in American art. Stieglitz also photographed O'Keeffe extensively, creating hundreds of portraits and studies of her.

Their relationship is not the same as O'Keeffe’s connection with the many artists represented in Stieglitz’s galleries. Stieglitz was older than O'Keeffe and remained an important figure in her biography, but O'Keeffe developed an independent artistic identity. After his death, she continued her career and increasingly focused on New Mexico.
