Alfred Stieglitz married Georgia O’Keeffe in 1924.

Stieglitz was an influential photographer, modern-art promoter, and owner of the New York galleries Little Galleries of the Photo-Secession and An American Place. He first encountered O’Keeffe’s abstract charcoal drawings through the photographer and art educator Anita Pollitzer, then exhibited them in 1916 without O’Keeffe’s prior permission.

Their relationship became both personal and professional. Stieglitz photographed O’Keeffe extensively, producing more than 300 portraits over several decades, while also promoting her work to American audiences. They married on December 24, 1924, and divided much of their time between New York and Lake George.

Stieglitz was 23 years older than O’Keeffe. Their marriage lasted until his death in 1946, although they spent substantial periods apart during the later years of their relationship.
