Which photographer and gallerist did Georgia O'Keeffe marry in 1924?

Georgia O'Keeffe married photographer and gallerist Alfred Stieglitz in 1924.

Stieglitz first encountered O'Keeffe's work after a friend showed him some of her charcoal abstractions in 1916. He exhibited her art at his New York gallery, 291, without initially knowing her identity. Their personal relationship developed later, and they married on December 24, 1924.

Stieglitz was already a major figure in American photography and modern-art advocacy. He operated influential galleries, including 291 and An American Place, and helped introduce European modernism to American audiences. His photographs of O'Keeffe also became an important part of his artistic legacy.

The couple maintained a complex relationship and spent much of their married life apart. O'Keeffe increasingly divided her time between New York and New Mexico, while Stieglitz remained in the East. He died in 1946, after which O'Keeffe moved permanently toward her Southwestern life.
