Which Oscar category did Pixar's Cars receive a nomination for at the 79th Academy Awards?

Pixar's Cars received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature at the 79th Academy Awards.

The nomination recognized the 2006 animated film directed by John Lasseter. Cars competed in the category with Happy Feet and Monster House. Happy Feet won the award at the ceremony, so Cars was a nominee rather than the winner.

The 79th Academy Awards honored films released during 2006 and took place in 2007. Cars also had recognition in other awards organizations, including the Golden Globes, where it won the first Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film.

This category is easy to confuse with Best Picture because Cars was one of Pixar's highest-profile films. However, its Oscar nomination was specifically in the animated-feature category. The film was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Our Town,” performed by James Taylor.
