Which organization is headquartered at the Centre William Rappard in Geneva?
Answer
World Trade Organization
Answer
World Trade Organization
The World Trade Organization is headquartered at the Centre William Rappard in Geneva.
The Centre William Rappard was completed in 1926 and was originally built for the International Labour Organization. The building later became the WTO’s principal headquarters and is named after William Rappard, a Swiss diplomat and professor who played an important role in Geneva’s international institutions.
The site contains offices, meeting rooms and historical artworks. Its use reflects Geneva’s role as a hub for international organizations, especially those dealing with economic, social and humanitarian affairs. The WTO’s work includes trade negotiations, monitoring members’ trade policies and administering its agreements.
The International Labour Organization is a particularly plausible wrong answer because it occupied the building first. The World Intellectual Property Organization and World Health Organization are also Geneva-based, but their headquarters are separate facilities. The Centre William Rappard is specifically associated with the WTO today.
