Union Cycliste Internationale
Answer
Union Cycliste Internationale
The Union Cycliste Internationale was founded in 1900 to govern international cycling.
Usually abbreviated as UCI, the organisation was established on 14 April 1900 in Paris by national cycling federations from Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United States. It became the international governing body for cycle sport.
The UCI oversees disciplines including road racing, track cycling, mountain biking, cyclo-cross, BMX and trials. It creates competition rules, licenses riders and teams, sanctions international events and awards world championship titles.
The UCI should not be confused with the International Olympic Committee, which governs the Olympic movement. National federations remain responsible for cycling within their own countries, while the UCI coordinates international competition. The organisation’s headquarters are now in Aigle, Switzerland, where it also operates the World Cycling Centre.
