The United States defeated Australia in the 2008 Olympic women’s basketball final featuring Candace Parker.
The United States won the gold-medal game 92–65 at the Beijing Olympics. Parker was part of the American team during her first Olympic appearance and earned the first of her two Olympic gold medals.
Australia had a strong women’s basketball program and was one of the United States’ major international rivals. The final was nevertheless controlled by the Americans, who finished the tournament undefeated.
Parker returned to the Olympic stage in 2012 and won another gold medal in London. The opponent in that final was France, so the two Olympic finals should not be confused. Parker’s 2008 and 2012 medals formed an important part of the résumé recognized by her 2026 Hall of Fame selection.
