The Olympic stadium beside the stage 1 finish in Barcelona was the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The stadium stands on Montjuïc and was the centrepiece of Barcelona’s 1992 Summer Olympics, making it a highly recognisable landmark on the opening route of the 2026 Tour de France.

Stage 1 is planned as a team time trial beginning and ending in Barcelona. After travelling through parts of the city, the teams climb toward Montjuïc, with the finish located beside the Olympic stadium rather than inside the athletics arena itself. The nearby Anella Olímpica gives the finish a distinctly Olympic setting.

The venue has had several names. It opened in 1929 as the Estadi de Montjuïc, was known as the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc for many years, and was renamed in honour of Lluís Companys, the Catalan politician, in 2001. It is also commonly called Barcelona Olympic Stadium in English.
