Hornsea 2 became the world's largest offshore wind farm when it was fully commissioned off England in 2022.
Located in the North Sea, Hornsea 2 forms part of the wider Hornsea Wind Farm development, alongside Hornsea 1 and later projects. Its 165 Siemens Gamesa turbines have a combined capacity of 1.32 gigawatts, enough to supply electricity to more than one million UK homes under stated project estimates.
The project is situated about 89 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast. Construction began after approval in the late 2010s, and the wind farm entered full operation in 2022. Danish energy company Ørsted developed and operates it.
Hornsea 2 is sometimes confused with Hornsea 1, which was also a record-setting project when completed. Hornsea 1 has a capacity of 1.218 gigawatts, while Hornsea 2 is larger. The two projects are separate phases within the same offshore wind zone.
