Which of Tolkien’s sons edited and published The Silmarillion after his death?
Answer
Christopher Tolkien
Answer
Christopher Tolkien
Christopher Tolkien edited and published The Silmarillion after his father’s death.
J.R.R. Tolkien left extensive, unfinished writings about the mythology of Middle-earth. Christopher organized, selected, and edited this material into a publishable volume, which appeared in 1977, four years after his father died. The book presents the creation of the world, the history of the Valar, and the wars of the First Age.
The Silmarillion is not a conventional novel written in one completed sequence. It combines mythology, annalistic history, legends, and shorter narratives from different stages of Tolkien’s work. Christopher later published many additional manuscripts in The History of Middle-earth, making him the principal editor and literary custodian of his father’s unpublished writings.
