Which of the Eight Immortals plays a flute?
Answer
Han Xiangzi
Answer
Han Xiangzi
Among the Eight Immortals, the flute player is Han Xiangzi. He is commonly depicted carrying a Chinese flute and is regarded as the patron deity of flutists.
Han Xiangzi is one of the legendary xian, or immortals, in Chinese mythology. Stories identify him with Han Yu’s nephew, although the literary and religious traditions surrounding him developed over time. He studied Daoist arts under Lü Dongbin, another member of the group, and became associated with music, poetry, and miraculous skill.
His signature instrument is often described as a dizi or jade flute. In some legends, he creates or receives a magical flute from golden bamboo after a tragic romance, giving the instrument an emotional as well as supernatural role.
The other options are also Eight Immortals: Lan Caihe is linked with flowers, Cao Guojiu with an imperial connection, and Lü Dongbin with scholarship and leadership. Their characteristic objects help distinguish them.
