Answer
Taiping Jing
Answer
Taiping Jing
The Taoist text known as “The True Scripture of the Great Peace” is the Taiping Jing. Its title is also translated as “Scriptures of the Great Peace,” and it is one of the key surviving sources for early Daoist religious ideas.
The Taiping Jing is not a single perfectly preserved manuscript. At least two Han-period works used the title, including a 12-chapter text attributed to Gan Zhongke and a much larger 170-chapter version, of which only 57 chapters survive in the Daoist Canon. The surviving work discusses cosmic balance, yin and yang, the Five Elements, omens, morality, and the ideal of restoring a peaceful age.
The text became especially important in the late Eastern Han period. Zhang Jue, leader of the Yellow Turban movement, taught a form of “Taiping Taoism” associated with its ideas. A common mix-up is choosing the Daodejing, Zhuangzi, or Liezi: all are major Daoist works, but none means “Scripture of Great Peace.”
