Which of the Eight Immortals is known for his magic fan?

The story behind the answer

Zhongli Quan is the Eight Immortal known for his magic fan. He is usually portrayed as a stout, bare-bellied, bearded man holding a large fan made from feathers, horsehair, or similar materials.

In legend, the fan has extraordinary powers: it can revive the dead and transform stones or base materials into silver and gold. These abilities connect Zhongli Quan with alchemy, wealth, longevity, and the Taoist search for transcendence. He is also called Han Zhongli because tradition places him in the Han dynasty.

Zhongli Quan’s stories describe him as a former military figure who encounters a mysterious teacher, receives instruction in ritual and alchemy, and later uses supernatural powers to help people suffering from poverty. Taoist traditions honor him as Zhengyang Zushi, or True-Yang Ancestor-Master.

The other named options have different attributes. Han Xiangzi is associated with the flute, Lan Caihe with flowers or a flower basket, and Lü Dongbin with a sword. Thus, the fan is Zhongli Quan’s identifying emblem.
