Which of Queen Victoria's children married a Russian grand duchess?

Prince Alfred was the Queen Victoria child who married a Russian grand duchess. On 23 January 1874, he married Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia at the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg.

Alfred was Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s second son and a senior Royal Navy officer. Maria was the daughter of Tsar Alexander II and the only surviving daughter of his first marriage. Their wedding joined Britain’s House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha with Russia’s Romanov dynasty.

The match was politically significant, but the ceremony also followed both Russian Orthodox and Anglican traditions. After the marriage, Maria became Duchess of Edinburgh. When Alfred inherited Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1893, she also became Duchess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

The couple had five children, including Marie, who became Queen of Romania, and Victoria Melita, later a grand duchess of Hesse.
