Which of King David's wives helped save him from Saul?

Michal, one of King Saul’s daughters and David’s wife, helped save David from Saul.

According to 1 Samuel 19, Saul sent men to watch David’s house and kill him in the morning. Michal warned David and helped him escape through a window. She then placed a household image in the bed, covered it with clothing, and used goats’ hair to make it appear that David was ill and lying there. When Saul’s agents discovered the deception, David was already gone.

Michal’s actions are especially dramatic because Saul was both her father and David’s enemy. The biblical story portrays her as loving David and willing to defy Saul’s murderous plan. Her intervention gave David time to flee and begin the period of wandering that preceded his eventual rise to kingship.

Her later life was complicated. Saul gave Michal to another man, Palti, while David was away, but David eventually demanded her return after becoming king of Judah. Michal later criticized David when he danced publicly during the Ark’s arrival in Jerusalem. Thus, her story includes both a decisive act of loyalty and a strained marriage.
