Which ocean lies to the west of Canada?
Answer
Pacific Ocean
Answer
Pacific Ocean
The Pacific Ocean lies to the west of Canada.
Canada stretches across the northern part of North America, with the Pacific Ocean along its western coastline, especially beside British Columbia. The Atlantic Ocean borders the country to the east, while the Arctic Ocean lies to the north. This gives Canada coastlines on three oceans.
The Pacific coast is rugged and mountainous. British Columbia’s shoreline includes fjords, islands, and major waterways such as the Strait of Georgia and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Vancouver and Victoria are among the best-known Canadian cities connected to the Pacific coast.
The Pacific also influences western Canada’s climate. Coastal British Columbia generally has milder, wetter conditions than Canada’s interior, although the Coast Mountains create sharp regional differences. A common mix-up is choosing the Arctic Ocean because Canada reaches far north; the Arctic is north of the country, not west. The Atlantic is likewise on Canada’s eastern side.
