Which novel closes C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia series?

The story behind the answer

The Last Battle closes C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia series.

Published in 1956, The Last Battle is the seventh and final Narnia book released in the series. Its story concerns deception in Narnia, the return of several human characters, and the end of the fictional world. Lewis received the Carnegie Medal for the book in 1957, recognizing it as the outstanding children’s book of the preceding year.

The title can be confused with Prince Caspian or The Silver Chair, which are earlier entries in the publication sequence. It can also be confused with the internal chronology of Narnia, because Lewis’s books were not published in the order of the world’s fictional history. The Last Battle is nevertheless unambiguous as the concluding volume and supplies the series’ final narrative setting.
