Which Norwegian city hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics?
Answer
Lillehammer
Answer
Lillehammer
Lillehammer hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics.
The Games took place from 12 to 27 February 1994 in Lillehammer and nearby venues in Norway. They were the first Winter Olympics held two years after the preceding Winter Games, following a decision by the International Olympic Committee to alternate the Summer and Winter Olympics on different four-year cycles.
Norway used the event to showcase winter sports, local culture, and environmental planning. Lillehammer’s opening and closing ceremonies were held at the Lysgårdsbakken Ski Jumping Arena, while events such as alpine skiing, speed skating, and ice hockey took place across the region.
The Games are remembered for the figure-skating rivalry between Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding, although the United States skaters did not win the women’s gold medal. Ukraine’s Oksana Baiul won that title. Norway topped the medal table with 26 gold medals and 67 medals overall.
