Which Nintendo platform originally hosted Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light?

Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light originally hosted on the Family Computer, Nintendo’s Japanese home console commonly called the Famicom.

Released in Japan on April 20, 1990, it was developed by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo. The game introduced Prince Marth, grid-based tactical battles, recruitable allies, and the permanent loss of defeated units—features that became central to Fire Emblem’s identity.

The title was not originally released overseas. Its first official international release came in 2020 on Nintendo Switch, with conveniences such as rewind, fast-forwarding, and save states. That later version can cause confusion, but it does not change the original platform. The Family Computer is also distinct from the Super Famicom, which hosted the later third entry, Mystery of the Emblem.
