Marty McFly wore the Nike Mag in Back to the Future Part II.
The fictional shoe appeared in the 1989 film, which depicted McFly traveling to the future year 2015. Its futuristic design included glowing elements and an imagined automatic-lacing system, making it one of cinema’s best-known fictional sneakers.
Nike later produced limited real-world versions inspired by the film shoe. A 2011 release used battery-powered lighting but did not provide automatic lacing. Nike introduced an adaptive-lacing version in 2016 through the HyperAdapt-related technology and a limited charity release.
The Nike Mag is often confused with the Air Mag name used in some later references. In the film and product history, “Nike Mag” is the established name for the Back to the Future-inspired model.
