Which NHL team was the last Canadian club to win the Stanley Cup, in 1993?
Answer
Montreal Canadiens
Answer
Montreal Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens were the last Canadian NHL team to win the Stanley Cup, in 1993.
Montreal defeated the Los Angeles Kings four games to one in the 1993 Stanley Cup Final. The Canadiens won the deciding Game 5 by a score of 4–1 at the Montreal Forum on June 9, 1993. Captain Guy Carbonneau lifted the Cup after Montreal captured its league-record 24th championship.
The Canadiens' 1993 victory was also the last Stanley Cup won by a Canadian-based NHL team. Canadian clubs have reached later Finals, including the Vancouver Canucks in 2011, the Edmonton Oilers in 2006 and 2024, and the Montreal Canadiens in 2021, but none won the championship.
The 1993 Final is also remembered for Wayne Gretzky's first appearance in a Stanley Cup Final with Los Angeles and for Montreal winning all 10 of its playoff games that went to overtime.
